Popular Children’s Games

Popular games represent a form of our folkloric heritage, some of which has disappeared, whereas others have over time been modified in one form or the other. This collection includes for the time being 10 paintings which will be further expanded in the future with paintings representing other games about to disappear.

The games depicted in the paintings concern boys and girls’ games, some of which are played indoors or outdoors, accompanied by rhyming songs. It is remarkable that popular games are similar in their style in most countries but they are given different names. The difference reflects the slight difference in customs, traditions and more although the content often remains the same.
